CBD

What is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol – the second most common cannabinoid found in cannabis. THC is the other most common cannabinoid. CBD is found in the cannabis plants hemp and marijuana.

Unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive. The effects of CBD include: alerting at low doses, sedating at high doses, reduces pain, relaxes muscle spasms, potent anti-inflammatory, stops nausea/vomiting, reduces anxiety/depression, counters psychotic thoughts, anti-oxidant, anti-convulsant, neuro-protectant, and anti-tumor effects. CBD can also help with sleep and has been showing some benefits for cancer patients.

What is in CBD oil?

CBD oil is the term used to describe a sublingual tincture of CBD. A CBD oil or tincture is made by mixing a CBD extract from a cannabis plant into a base like alcohol or hemp seed oil. The CBD oil is meant to be held under the tongue and absorbed directly into the bloodstream. A sublingual absorption provides a faster effect than absorption via the stomach (i.e. taking a CBD capsule or edible product). All CBD oil at Tallulah is third-party tested for purity and quality and contains a QR code to view test results.

The 2018 Farm Bill formally legalized hemp, taking it off the Schedule 1 controlled substance designation. CBD products are derived from hemp — not marijuana — by a licensed grower and contain less than 0.3% THC, the compound that gets people high.

Wait, aren’t cannabis, hemp, and marijuana the same thing?

Not exactly. Cannabis is a term that is used for both hemp and marijuana. But there are slight differences. Industrial hemp is a strain of Cannabis sativa. Marijuana can be Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, or Cannabis ruderalis. The difference? Hemp has high levels of CBD and low levels of THC. With marijuana, it’s the other way around. It has low levels of CBD and high levels of THC.

Will I get high from CBD?

Full spectrum CBD products contain less than 0.3% THC are not meant to get you high. If you are sensitive to THC or are getting drug tested it is best to go with a broad spectrum or isolate CBD product, which both contain zero THC.

Can I drive when taking CBD?

Yes. You might get tired and relaxed after taking it, though. So until you know how you react to it, don’t drive or operate machinery.

Will I pass a drug test if I take CBD?

Most drug tests screen for THC, and with less than 0.3% THC, you would have to consume a lot of CBD for the THC to register on a test. If you need to take a drug test or are randomly tested as part of your job, you may want to tell your employer or the testing facility about the fact that you’re using legal full spectrum CBD oil or else opt for a broad spectrum or CBD isolate product that contains zero THC.

Will CBD interact with my prescription medications?

Just like grapefruit juice, CBD may interact with some medications. We recommend that you consult your physician or pharmacist before using CBD if you are using prescription medications or have concerns. Do not use CBD if you are pregnant or nursing.

What’s the best way to take CBD?

You can ingest CBD or apply it topically. For CBD oil, take it under your tongue, hold it there for one to five minutes, and then swallow any remaining oil. CBD can also be ingested from CBD capsules, CBD gummies, CBD vapes, CBD hemp flower, CBD coffee, CBD gum, CBD tea, and CBD beverages.

How much CBD should I take?

The short answer is, it’s personal. Everyone is different. The right CBD dosage must be individually determined. If you are new to CBD or have little experience, we recommend going “slow and low.” (This is true for your pets too!).

Why is CBD exploding in popularity now?

Many factors account for the increasing popularity of CBD, here are a few:

  • The 2018 Farm Bill formally legalized hemp, taking it off the Schedule 1 controlled substance designation
  • Widespread availability
  • Reputable research institutions conducting studies on CBD
  • Celebrities and athletes crediting CBD with helping them
  • Increased focus on health and wellness, including more natural products
